Root Causes

Etiology // Origins

Root Causes & Triggers

Hyperarousal

An overactive nervous system that refuses to transition from the 'awake' state to the 'rest' state.

Circadian Misalignment

Disruptions to the internal body clock due to shift work, jet lag, or late-night screen time.

Conditioned Arousal

The brain begins to associate the bed with frustration and wakefulness rather than sleep.

Islamic Perspective

"Sleeplessness (Sahar) dries the brain and disrupts the rational faculties."

Ibn Sina (Avicenna)(11th Century (980–1037 CE))

Reflection & Clinical Context

Ibn Sina identified insomnia as a serious medical disorder. He prescribed comprehensive sleep hygiene routines, herbal sedatives like chamomile, and specific diets. Spiritually, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) provided specific grounding supplications for those who could not sleep.
